The Greek philosopher Epicurus (341–270 B.C.) founded one of the most important philosophies of ancient Greece with an emphasis on the pleasure, sophistication and luxury of life. His school, The Garden, located just outside Athens near Plato’s Academy, was one of the first to accept women as academic students.
